A female footballer attacked by a violent serial offender outside a Rhyl nightspot says she is too scared to go out in the town again.

John Roberts of Penyffordd was jailed for two years for headbutting Sophie Bancroft in an unprovoked assault near the Bar Bow on Water Street in May. Miss Bancroft had been celebrating after her team, Point Ladies, won a football tournament in Kinmel Bay.

Roberts admitted causing actual bodily harm – but left Mold Crown Court on Friday before he could be sentenced. The 52 year-old from Penyffordd turned himself into police on Monday afternoon and reappeared before a judge on Tuesday.
