The Yorkshire Building Society is to close two of its four branches on the North Wales Coast.
The Prestatyn and Abergele branches are among 20 across the UK set to close on Friday 19th May. It comes just weeks after NatWest announced it was closing its Prestatyn and Ruthin banks this July with HSBC shutting its Abergele branch in March.
Yorkshire, the second biggest mutual in the UK, will also axe the separate Norwich and Peterborough building society and close all current accounts, along with a further 28 branch closures.
YBS chief executive Mike Reigner said: ”The driving forces behind the proposed branch closures are shifts in market conditions and an increasing desire among customers to transact digitally rather than on the High Street.”
The announcement does not affect YBS’ branches in Rhyl and Llandudno – but elsewhere in Wales, branches in Llangefni on Anglesey, Monmouth and Cowbridge in the Vale of Glamorgan are set to close.
