Three men charged after an armed police operation in West Rhyl have been remanded in custody by magistrates.

A fourth defendant failed to appear in court on Friday after he reportedly fell ill and was taken to hospital instead.

Paul Lewis (39) of Kinmel Bay and Jake Kiernan (24) and Perry Lee Jones (22) of Rhyl were charged with possessing a handgun and conspiring to commit grievous bodily harm against Damien Wilding on Monday.

The men were arrested later that evening when their car was forcibly stopped in a planned operation on Wellington Road, held in response to an assault in Rhyl High Street.

Llandudno magistrates heard all of the suspects would be entering not guilty pleas. Lewis and Kiernan are also charged with conspiring to supply cannabis while Jones was already on a warrant without bail for other matters.

There was no application for bail and the three were remanded until they appear at Mold Crown Court on Friday 26th May.

The fourth man, Kyle Evitt (29) from Rhyl, did not appear in court after he was reportedly taken ill. He faces similar charges and may appear on Saturday if his health improves.
