St David Awards – less than three weeks to go until nominations close
With less than three weeks to go, First Minister Carwyn Jones is calling for people from across Wales to recommend someone they feel deserves recognition for their outstanding achievements.
The St David Awards scheme is unique to Wales and recognises the achievements of people from all walks of life, regardless of their origin or background. The closing date for nominations is 5 November 2013.
The First Minister said: “With only three weeks to go until nominations close for these prestigious awards, I would urge anybody who knows someone they think deserves one of these awards to nominate. We have already received a steady stream of applications but I wouldn’t want anybody to miss out on this unique opportunity to put forward someone they think should be recognised for their achievements.
“At some point in our lives, most of us have been fortunate enough to meet people who work tirelessly for others and make a real difference to the quality of life in Wales without expecting anything in return and now is our chance to give something back. I would urge people to fill out the form and nominate anyone they feel deserves acknowledgement and give them the opportunity to get special recognition in the public domain.”
The Awards themselves will be an annual feature of Welsh life celebrating those people who do exceptional things, inspiring others and making a real difference to the quality of life in Wales.
There are eight award categories for which anyone can be nominated – bravery; citizenship; culture; enterprise; innovation and technology; sport; international and young person.
There is also a ninth award, the First Minister’s Special Award, which will be chosen personally by the First Minister and for which people cannot be nominated.
Nominations can be made by simply filling out an online form or downloading a template on the website www.stdavidawards.org.uk.
