#SoundsOfWales Selection Box

To put it mildly, 2016 is probably leaving you with something to…erm, complain about. Happily, you should have nothing to regret from this year in Welsh music.

We certainly don’t, having set off right from 1st January with what’s turned into a series of occasional Sounds of Wales showcases. I’ve surprised myself that we’ve even reached this point.

But then, I shouldn’t be, given the sheer length, breadth and volume of talent we’ve brought you throughout the year. At the last count, in our five specials thus far, we’ve played nigh on a hundred artists from every corner of the land in Cymraeg, English, Francais and Italiano. We’re still working on finding someone who performs in Esperanto.

In the meantime, having extolled all and sundry about the best Welsh albums of the year in our last show, our Christmas Selection Box special throws much of the spotlight back on the new and the unheard. We’ve even made time to fit in two Valleys artists by recommendation of our listeners – we hope it goes without saying that we are only too welcome and very grateful for suggestions.

There’s also the return of a few of our favourites from the past twelve months – and the odd treat here and there – plus some of the songs that have popped up under the Track of the Week banner on Drivetime every Friday.

And one other thing – thank you. For those of you who’ve listened, supported, contributed or simply just taken notice of our airplay, you’ve helped us rediscover a thirst for new Welsh music at Point in 2016. Let’s carry on into 2017, shall we?
