Seven candidates in Abergele and Pensarn have put their name forward for a by-election next month.

The poll for the vacant seat on Conwy County Council was triggered by the resignation of Welsh Labour councillor Joan Stubbs at the end of July. It will be held on Thursday 18th September.

Three political parties are fielding candidates in the by-election – John Pitt for the Welsh Conservatives, Rick Stubbs for Welsh Labour and Sarah Wardlaw for the UK Independence Party. The four other candidates represent independent interests – Barry Griffiths, Val Parker, Michael Smith and Ken Sudlow.

Meanwhile, candidates are being sought to find a new county councillor for Towyn following the death of William Knightly, the Conservative leader at Bodlondeb who also ran a funfair and amusement park in the resort.
