Woman dies in Rhyl crash

A woman has died after a two car crash which closed the A548 in Rhyl.

The crash, involving a silver Toyota GT and a silver Volkswagen Polo, occurred on Russell Road at just before 5pm on Thursday. It was closed both ways between St Thomas’ Church and the Rhianfa Veterinary Centre for over five hours.

Traffic was diverted via Bath Street, East Parade and Chester Street while emergency crews, including the Wales Air Ambulance, were at the scene.

Police said a female pedestrian in her forties was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd in Bodelwyddan but later died from her injuries. She has not been formally identified and no further details are available.

Sergeant Jason Diamond said officers were keen to speak to the driver and any passengers of a small silver car seen travelling on the road at around 4.47pm. The driver of a white Vauxhall Vivaro van with ladders on its roof had been traced since the investigation into the fatal crash began.

Anyone with information or who may have seen the crash should contact the Roads Policing Unit in St Asaph on 101, quoting reference no. U103375.
