A former taxi driver has been told to register a sex offender for five years after he slapped a teenage girl on the bottom.
Peter Mealing from Prestatyn was sacked following the incident involving a 13 year-old at the Royal Victoria Hotel on Sandy Lane, where his wife is the licensee. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault.
Prestatyn magistrates heard the girl had gone to the hotel with another child and accompanied by adults. Mealing asked another man at the premises to guess the girl’s age and allegedly said she ”had a nice a***”.
Mealing told police that he knew her age and that it was a joke which went wrong, but added he did not receive any sexual gratification. The girl told officers the incident was ”really creepy”.
In court, the defence said Mealing would have to live with ”the stigma of his conviction for the rest of his life”. The judge told him his behaviour had been ”totally unacceptable” but added there were significant issues concerning why the two children were allowed in the hotel bar at 10pm.
Mealing was told to pay £200 compensation to the girl and a total of £145 in costs. He must also carry out 175 hours of unpaid work.
