Rhyl murder victim named after ‘targeted attack’



Police have named a Rhyl man stabbed to death in what’s believed to be a targeted attack.

48 year-old Mark Roy Mason died in hospital after he was attacked in the car park of Home Bargains on Marsh Road at around 7.25pm on Thursday evening. His family are being supported by liasion officers.

Mr Mason was treated at the scene by paramedics after the stabbing. A white Renault Kangoo van was driven into the car park, followed by a black 4×4 vehicle. Mr Mason, who was a passenger in the Renault van was attacked before the offenders fled.

The store has remained closed throughout Friday while forensic officers re-examined the scene – the car park remains cordoned off while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Jason Devonport said they believed it was a targeted assault – but the reason for it had not yet been established.

He added: ”This incident has shocked the community. We continue to appeal to anybody who may have information that could assist the investigation to come forward… increased police activity and patrols will continue in the area whilst we investigate and reassure our community.”
