Prestatyn stand-off: man threatened to blow up house

Residents on a Prestatyn road were evacuated after a man threatened to blow up his house.

Armed police officers and emergency services were called out to Ash Grove at around 8.30pm last night. North Wales Police control room staff in St Asaph tweeted the area had been cordoned off because of a potential gas leak.

But the Cheshire and North Wales Alliance unit reported it had been negotiating with a man who had cut himself and was threatening to blow up his house. Residents were able to return to their homes by 10.15pm.

A police spokesperson said officers had attended the scene but were unable to comment any further. The Welsh Ambulance Service said it had sent two paramedics and an ambulance crew, but they were not needed to provide treatment.
