Prestatyn man caught drug smuggling in jail

A Prestatyn man has admitted trying to smuggle drugs into a Shropshire jail.

Michael Bona (32) was put under observation by staff at HMP Stoke Heath near Market Drayton when he visited an inmate last December.

Bona was later seen exchanging his shoes with the inmate – around 200 grams of methyl and eight tablets in packages were found along with a mobile phone and two sim cards.

The 32 year-old pleaded guilty to knowing the inmate to be a prisoner and giving him a prohibited article and a mobile phone. He is due to be sentenced at Shrewsbury Crown Court a later date.

West Mercia Police said eleven people were arrested for drug smuggling offences last year.
