Point FM 103.1 would like to send their sincere and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Andy Baker who passed away on Thursday 7th July 2016 after a short illness.
Andy was part of the Point FM team from March 2015 to February 2016 as Drive Time presenter and was very well known for his long history as a club DJ in the local area and abroad. He also spent some happy years broadcasting and presenting in Benidorm as part of Cool FM, establishing and enhancing his reputation abroad.
As part of the Point FM team he will be totally remembered for the highly professional and exuberant way he hosted Madness on their sell out appearance at the Events Arena, Rhyl, warming up the crowd and linking bands before one of the biggest music gigs in the town. As anchor for the show he was personally thanked by the band for the work he did on stage. Finally, he will remember for his great knowledge of music and artistes locally, regionally and nationally, and for his more localised appearances at clubs, parties and events along the North Wales Coast, entertaining thousands of friends, fans and music lovers alike.
He is survived by his wife and son.
Point FM Breakfast presenter and friend of 35 years Kev Hamilton said:
“It was good to share the last 12 months with him and having chance to reminisce about great memories from years gone by. Also, to be part of the same team with him again when he joined Point FM was a great privilege especially on stage for the last time live at Madness in Rhyl.”
Kev Hamilton will lead tributes to Andy Baker from 7am on Friday 8th July where we will dedicate a whole days’ output to him.
Station boss Harold Martin said “in the thirty plus years that I knew Andy his sheer professionalism constantly shone through. He worked with me on experimenting radio and TV along the North Wales Coast, producing programmes and events with an enthusiasm and bounce that was impossible to match elsewhere. He joined us at Point FM after a break in Spain, and brought the same verve and fun as he had always shown. Our thoughts are with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him”
Andy Baker’s funeral will be held on Monday, 18th July, 9.45am in St Mary’s Church, Rhuddlan, then at Colwyn Bay Crematorium at 11am.
