Pensarn man jailed for crashing stolen car into house

North Wales Police

A serial offender from Pensarn has been jailed after he crashed a stolen car into a house.

Jonathan Edwards sped at up to 70mph in a 30mph zone before the Toyota Carolla smashed into the living room of a house in Abergele last November. The crash caused over £17,000 worth of damage.

A jury at Caernarfon Crown Court found Edwards (42) guilty of causing damage to property and aggravated vehicle taking. The defendant from South Parade had admitted dangerous driving while disqualified.

The court heard Edwards had a prolific criminal record – he had been convicted forty times for offences including burglary and dishonesty. The crash at the house on New York Terrace had left the residents in a state of shock.

Edwards was sentenced to 25 months in jail, banned from driving for four years and ordered to take an extended driving test. The Recorder Gregg Bull told him that the offences were ”as serious as they could be” and the result of his actions could have been potentially horrifying.
