Rhyl’s new bridge named ‘Pont Y Ddraig’ will be set to open on October 22nd 2013.
The official opening of the bridge will be done by Paralympic Champion at London 2012, Mark Colbourne MBE and Ysgol Maes Owen student Leon Jones, who won the opportunity to name the bridge Pont y Ddraig back in June.
Work on the lightweight bridge is part of a £9.9m development of the harbour, which will include a public square and a quay side building. The bridge will be the final link in 15 miles of cycling route through Conwy and Denbighshire.
The bridge at night will come alive with a lighting scheme, making it a stand out feature as visitors and residents enter the town. The design of the bridge will allow boats to pass through into the harbour, by both sections elevating.
