North Walian arrested after Wirral gas blast

A North Wales man has been arrested in connection with a suspected gas explosion on the Wirral.

Up to 34 people were injured – two of them seriously – in the blast at New Ferry last March, which destroyed a dance studio and damaged ten nearby homes. Over a hundred residents were evacuated.

Merseyside Police say the 62 year-old is being questioned on suspicion of conspiring to commit arson and a fraud offence following a raid at an undisclosed address on Wednesday morning. A 55 year-old man from the Wirral has also been arrested on similar charges.
