One of the world’s foremost rugby referees is to take charge of a North Wales match in the New Year.
Nigel Owens will officiate RGC’s Premiership home clash with Pontypridd at Eirias Park on Saturday 7th January.
Owens took charge of the 2015 Rugby World Cup final between Australia and New Zealand – he also holds the record for officiating more Test matches than any other referee in history.
Announcing his Christmas schedule on Twitter on Wednesday, Owens said he would be overseeing the Pro12 derbies between Munster & Leinster on Boxing Day and Scarlets & Cardiff Blues on New Year’s Day before the pivotal top flight clash in Colwyn Bay.
Going into the festive season, RGC lie fourth in the Premiership table with eight wins from their opening twelve games. They visit leaders Merthyr next Tuesday before a trip to Newport on Monday 2nd January.
