MP welcomes Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

The MP for the Vale of Clwyd, Dr James Davies, has welcomed confirmation of funding so the new baby care unit can go ahead in his constituency at Ysbty Glan Clwyd. The unit, Known as the SuRNICC, is an intensive care facility for premature and very sick babies.

Commenting Dr Davies said,

“I have campaigned long and hard for local maternity services despite the attempts to move facilities to other, more distant hospitals.

The decision to base the SuRNICC at Glan Clwyd underlines the point the people of Rhyl made to the Welsh Government, when they demanded that Cardiff listen to local views and health experts.

Clearly we have been totally vindicated now and the decision along with the £18M funding to proceed, confirms having both intensive and consultant led maternity services at Glan Clwyd is vital.

It is only sad that the issue wasn’t clearly resolved many months ago”.
