Police have named a teenager shot dead outside a pub on the Llyn Peninsula.
Peter Colwell was found in the car park of the Ship Inn in Llanbedog, near Pwllheli, in the early hours of Sunday morning. Detectives say the 18 year-old from Capel Uchaf suffered fatal gunshot wounds and a shotgun was recovered from the scene.
Four local men arrested in connection with the shooting have been released on bail – it’s understood they were friends with Mr Colwell, described as a keen hunter and fisherman. Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
Detective Superintendent Iestyn Davies said although they were treating the shooting as murder, they were keeping an open mind about the circumstances leading to Mr Colwell’s death – and insisted it was an isolated incident with no wider threat to the public.
”We are employing experts to help us establish exactly what happened and how the firearm came to be discharged…we are not seeking anyone else in connection with the investigation and the firearm involved has been recovered. We will be consulting with the Crown Prosecution Service in due course regarding any charges that may be made.”
A post-mortem examination is still to take place but the coroner for North West Wales has been informed. The teenager’s family are being supported by liaison officers.
