A Liverpool man has been charged with the murder of a teenager on Deeside.

David John Woods (19) is accused of the fatal stabbing of Matthew Cassidy in the Bethel Place area of Connah’s Quay on Bank Holiday Monday.

Woods appeared briefly before magistrates in Mold on Monday morning – he was remanded in custody until he appears before a judge at the town’s Crown Court on Wednesday.

Two men, aged 18 and 49, have been released on bail after being questioned on suspicion of murder. Another two women and a man were released without charge earlier this week.

Detectives said the Crown Prosecution Service had concluded there was sufficient evidence to charge Woods with murder after police presented evidence on Sunday.

Detective Superintendent Iestyn Davies of North Wales Police said: ”Despite a charge arising out of this enquiry the investigation is very much live and I would appeal for anyone who has any information to contact us. This information can also be given in confidence.”

Anyone with information should contact North Wales Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, quoting reference no. V078270.
