An independent candidate has been elected to Trefnant Community Council.

Peter Hughes won Thursday’s by-election with 182 votes, beating Welsh Conservative opponent Ronald Davison by a majority of 79 votes. Another independent candidate, George Brookes, came third with 47 votes.

The council seat was held by the Tories’ Leslie Rees until he resigned at the end of last year.
