Coastguards say a ‘high risk’ missing person was found in Rhyl thanks to mobile phone tracking.

Police alerted Rhyl and Llandudno coastguards about the man, who disappeared from Old Colwyn at around 8pm on Sunday night.

A search stretching from the Rainbow Bridge at Llanddulas to Colwyn Bay proved unsuccessful, but the man’s mobile signal was traced towards Rhyl promenade and a second search began.

Around an hour after he was reported missing, the man was quickly found at the Rememberance Garden near the coastguard station and handed over into the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service.
