The go-ahead has been given for the first phase of Rhyl’s £30 million waterfront revamp.

Councillors voted unanimously to give planning permission to redevelop the site of the former Sun Centre. A new events and exhibition complex will take its place along with a 73-bedroom hotel next to the refurbished Pavilion Theatre on East Parade.

The Hospitality Zone proposals by Liverpool-based developers Neptune also included two new family restaurants and new parking for cars and coaches – they had been recommended for approval with conditions by Denbighshire council officers.

Planning permission was granted without objection at County Hall in Ruthin on Wednesday morning.
