Glan Clwyd consultation begins next month

Health officials will begin their consultation on plans to downgrade the maternity unit at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd next month.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board say it will ask the public and staff for their views on whether doctor-led services, including obstetrics and gynaecology, should be suspended for up to 18 months to deal with a staffing crisis at the Bodelwyddan hospital.

The health board abandoned its plans to push through its plans when it decided not to contest a judicial review – its interim chief executive Simon Dean says the six-week consultation will begin in mid August, although final dates are yet to be confirmed.
