Force tackles the ‘hidden crimes’ of Honour Based Abuse, Female Genital Mutilation and Forced Marriage

In support of the United Nations International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) on Saturday 6 February which led into FGM Prevention Week North Wales Police ran a comprehensive Social Media campaign with various messages of awareness, support, signposting and promotion of its eradication. To supplement information available about this ‘Hidden Crime’ North Wales Police’s Protecting Vulnerable People Unit have produced a ‘reader friendly’ awareness document and brochure on FGM, Forced Marriage (FM) and Honour Based Abuse (HBA) which can often be linked.

Detective Sergeant Mike Robinson from the force’s PVPU at St Asaph said “To help victims and raise awareness for Forced Marriage (FM), Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Honour Based Abuse (HBA) North Wales Police have created this document to provide the public with some warning signs and guidance when it comes to these mostly hidden crimes. These crimes have no place in our communities, together lets eradicate Forced Marriage, Female Genital Mutilation and Honour Based Abuse”
