A man will go on trial tomorrow accused of killing a Flint schoolgirl over 40 years ago.

Stephen Hough denies the murder and rape of Janet Commins in January 1976 – the 58 year-old from Maes-y-Dre was arrested last September.

The body of the 15 year-old was discovered in a playing field at Ysgol Gwynedd after she disappeared from her home to visit a local sports centre.

An application by the defence to adjourn the trial until Tuesday afternoon was approved by Mr Justice Lewis at the plea hearing at Mold Crown Court. Hough, who also denies a sexual assault charge, was remanded in custody.

The trial is expected to continue for three weeks.
