An investigation has started into how a fire started at the dilapidated Victorian pier in Colwyn Bay.
Two crews were called out to tackle the blaze on the Grade II-listed structure after it broke out at around 4.30pm on Friday afternoon. Work is taking place on dismantling part of the seaward end of the pier, which has collapsed in recent weeks.
A crew remained on standby overnight because of restricted access caused by the tide and uncertainty as to whether the fire had been extinguished, despite the use of cherry pickers.
North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said the incident had been brought under control and were now investigating the cause of the fire.
