The family of a Gwynedd teenager shot dead outside a pub have paid tribute to him.

The body of 18 year-old Peter Colwell was found in a vehicle outside the Ship Inn in Llanbedrog, near Pwllheli, earlier this month. Four local men, arrested on suspicion of murder, are still on police bail.

In a statement released via North Wales Police, Mr Colwell’s family described him as ”a popular young man who loved fishing and field sports.”

They added: ”He left college last summer and went up north to work as a boy and came back a fine young man. He will be sadly missed by his mother, father, family and many friends…he loved his dogs and had just started a job that he wanted more than anything. We, as a family, feel that we have lost a beautiful soul.”

A post-mortem examination found Mr Colwell died from a single shotgun wound to the head – detectives said they were treating their investigating as a murder inquiry, but were keeping an open mind about the circumstances.

A private funeral will be held for Mr Colwell, attended by family and close friends.
