Family escapes A55 car fire

A family fled from their car when it burst into flames on the A55 near Abergele.

The eastbound carriageway between junctions 25 and 24 was closed for a short time on Monday afternoon (25th August) when the green VW Scirocco caught fire near the A547 slip road at around 3.45pm.

The incident led to long tailbacks among the Bank Holiday traffic while emergency services dealt with the blaze – one lane was reopened shortly afterwards while the second remained closed for around 90 minutes.

North Wales Fire and Rescue Service say the cause of the fire is thought to be an electrical fault.
