An alleged phone scam over supposed council tax refunds has led to a warning for Denbighshire residents.
Trading Standards officers say some residents have received unsolicited calls advising about a rebate with the scammer disclosing they have some personal information including their name, address and council tax banding.
Public protection manager Emlyn Jones said the scam appeared to be a national operation or a variation based on similar reports elsewhere in the UK. He added: ”Our advice is to put the phone down on these scammers and then report the call. Anyone concerned about their Council Tax account is able to get more help from calling 01824 706468.”
Anyone who thinks they may have fallen victim to a scam, or knows someone who has been affected, should call the Citizens Advice consumer helplines on 03454 04 05 06 (English language) and 03454 04 05 05 (Welsh language). Alternatively, call Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040.
