Jobs have been saved at two Co-op stores in Denbighshire after they were sold onto new owners.

The food shops at Meliden Road in Prestatyn and Denbigh Road in Ruthin are among 298 brought by retail group McColl’s for £117 million. The sale is still subject to approval the CMA and McColl’s shareholders.

Co-Op said both shops would remain open and the transfer to their new owners is due to start in November. Around 15 staff work at the Prestatyn store.

Co-Op added the sale would help them reinvest in their strategy of opening more new stores across the UK.

Earlier this week, the future of a MyLocal store in Rhyl was secured. The Coast Road shop will become a Spar after it was brought by Blakemore Retail. MyLocal went into administration last month.
