Deeside murder inquiry: man arrested after stabbing

Detectives are investigating the fatal stabbing of a man on Deeside.

A 48 year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after the 19 year-old was found at Bethel Place in Connah’s Quay at just before 8pm on Monday evening. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem examination is due to be held later on the man, who has not been named but is thought to be from Liverpool. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by liaison officers.

Police said they believed a number of people were in the area at the time of the stabbing because there was a nearby pub. They also stressed it was not related to terrorism but patrols had been stepped up in the town while investigations continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Arwyn Jones said: ”I would ask if anybody heard anything, such as screaming, shouting or an altercation, who may at the time have thought nothing of it, to please come forward. If you saw anything suspicious, no matter how insignificant you may think it is, please contact us – your information could be vital.”

”Although a male is in custody, I would like to highlight that the investigation remains in its infancy.  The fact that a male has been arrested should not dissuade anyone with any information from coming forward.”

Anyone with information should call 101, quoting reference no. V078270, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
