CENTENARY YEAR FOR THE WELSH GUARDS Minister sees Welsh Guards receive new Colours

Public Services Minister, Leighton Andrews was at Windsor Castle yesterday [30 April] to witness the Welsh Guards receiving its new Colours from Her Majesty the Queen.
Representing Wales at the regimental event, the Minister was greeted by HRH the Prince of Wales.
The Duke of Edinburgh, HRH the Duchess of Cornwall, the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards and other representatives from Wales’ Armed Forces community also attended the ceremony.
Leighton Andrews said: “We owe our military personnel, past and present, a huge debt of gratitude. Their commitment and sacrifice both here and abroad helps ensure our freedom and safety.
“It was an honour to represent Wales at this special event and I offer my personal thanks to the brave servicemen and women who put their lives on the line for their country.”
Yesterday’s event was particularly significant because it also marks the centenary year of the formation of the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.
