Interview: Ellen Bickerstaff – September 2011

With a beaming smile and full of confidence 11 year old Ellen Bickerstaff from Rhyl joined me in the studio today to talk about being picked for the part as “Nell” in the Liverpool based musical “Her Benny” which is appearing at the Pavilion Theatre in Rhyl this October.

We discussed how long Ellen has been singing and dancing for, previous acting roles, the audition process for “Her Benny”, the character “Nell” and what she would like to be doing when she is older.

She also sang a solo song from “Her Benny” and had the chance to introduce some of her favourite songs on the radio.

Hurricane Irene: A Message from Vermont – September 2011

During the month of August “Hurricane Irene” hit the east coast of the USA.  The hurricane left extensive flood and wind damage along its path through the Caribbean, the United States East Coast and as far north as Atlantic Canada.  Considerable damage was caused in upstate New York and Vermont, which suffered the worse floods in years.

Being a community based station with international listeners via the live internet feed, we asked regular international listeners Cori and Sarah from Vermont USA if they could record us a voice message discussing the aftermath of “Hurricane Irene” and how it brought together the community.

Interview: Kids In Glass Houses – August 2011

Guitarist Iain Mahanty from rising Welsh band “Kids In Glass Houses” phoned the show today to discuss the bands new album “In Gold Blood”.  We spoke about there home coming gig in Cardiff, the recording techniques used, how bands like “Oasis” and classic rock helped influence the sound of the album, their UK tour and if he was an animal which one would he be.

Interview: Kelly Pepper – August 2011

The lovely London based singer Kelly Pepper phoned into the studio today for a chat about her about her new music, musical influences, working with the producer who discovered “Pixie Lott” and touring with “N-Dubz”. We also played 2 of her tracks, the euro dance style track “I Need Time” and the anthemic dub-step track “No Woman Should Cry”.

Interview: Sara Parry from “Master of the House” – July 2011

West End performer Sara Parry called in today on the phone to talk about her part in the theatre show “Master of the House” which is appearing at the Rhyl Pavilion this Saturday (Saturday 22nd July 2011).  She told us how the show brings together all the musical into one show, from Mamma Mia to Les Miserables, and how its not just for the West End musical goers and great fun for all the family.

Interview: Little Bill and Franchesqua – June 2011

Guitarist and singer/songwriter Little Bill aka William Gage came into the studio today with local singer/songwriter Franchesqua.

We discussed the effects and help given towards Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and how a prison scheme set up by singer Billy Bragg called “Jail Guitar Doors” helped him to learn how to play the guitar and write his own music.  He also sang two of his songs “High’s and Low’s” and “Blue Lights”.

Little Bill was also joined by singer Franchesqua who is currently studying at University in Manchester. She sang one of her self penned songs called “I Don’t Want to Lose You, Because I Scared to Lose Myself” accompanied by Little Bill on guitar and then an amazing cover of the “Jessie J track “Price Tag”.
