As Rhyl prepares for life back in the Huws Gray Alliance, the club has secured another glamour tie for its pre-season campaign. West Bromwich Albion will be sending a team to face the Lillywhites at Belle Vue on Saturday 15th July (3pm kick off)
The Baggies, under Tony Pulis, are set to secure a top ten finish ahead of their final two Premier League games of the season. While it remains to be seen which squad will be sent from the Black Country to the North Wales Coast, Rhyl sees it as a lucrative boost towards their plans to push towards a return to the Welsh Premier at the first time of asking.
The club’s managing director Mike Jones said: ”Securing high profile opposition such as West Bromwich Albion which is likely to interest supporters, would pay dividends for the promotion campaign we will be looking to launch for next season adding that the high profile pre-season games such as this would help the club’s budget for the coming season.”
Jones added that the club’s volunteers – whom he described as ”the real unsung heroes of Rhyl FC” – had been busy improving Belle Vue since the last day of last season: ”This work helps the ground to be maintained as a top class venue and this work helps in attracting high profile opposition to Rhyl for such matches.”
The Lillywhites are yet to announce their full pre-season fixture list – although it’s hoped another West Midlands club, Walsall of League One, will also figure among their opponents. Full details are expected in the next few weeks.
